Anticipation

Well it’s Friday and the anticipation of the weekend is building.
How will the kids do on their interim reports?
Will Dax’s soccer team be able to go undefeated?
Will I have enough yarn to finish the sweater?
Will Bama be able to pull out another win?
Will we really be able to start putting in the kitchen cabinets?

We’ll just have to wait and see.

The sweater with what’s left of the yarn.

I finally finished a bobbin of singles. It’s really pretty as singles because the color of green goes from a dark to a light. This picture does not really capture the colors well.

Here’s the same singles plyed. I’m not sure if I like it as much plied. I’m really new to this spinning and I often wonder if I’m over-under plying it.

Is this what it's suppose to look like?

Surf's up

I took a few pictures of the boys surfing on Sunday. They have had some waves come in since. I think today is suppose to be the big day for the surf.

Nice weekend so far

The weather was beautiful but Dax’s game was hot. I was sitting on the side line just dripping in sweat. I can just imagine how the girls felt trying to run around chasing a ball. They did good though, another win. I can’t say what the score was. I start to lose count after a while.

After the game we turned around and I got one picture of the shuttle going up.

Later we watched Bama get a win over Vanderbilt, once again a close game worth watching till the end.

I just love football season look how much I’ve got done on the sweater. I’m convinced that I don’t have enough yarn to finish it. What you see is what I have left of the yarn. I have to finish the sleeve and the collar.

Rudy put the dinning room light up. He’s also finish tiling the closet upstairs.

Tyde is waiting on waves to come in from Florence. There not here yet.

Somebody posted this link on one of my mailing lists. It has A LOT of knitting patterns on it and I thought worth book marking. I think it's called Garnstudio and Drops designs.

I did six miles today and I am painfully slow. It took me 1hour 34minutes. At this rate it will take me 3 hours and around 15 minutes to do the half marathon. I really need to pick up my pace to do this. There is just over 3 months before the half so there is still hope for me.

The good the bad

The bad, the guy doing our cabinets said it will probably take him another month. The good, he is finished with some of the pieces and wants us to pick them up this weekend.

The good, Tyde had his open house yesterday. I got to meet his teachers. The bad, I got a call today he has detention tomorrow for tardiness.

The bad, Tyde’s schedule is going to change. One of his teachers told me he has over 40 students in his class. The good, I went by to talk to them today about the changes. I didn’t know how much his schedule was going to change. I was told that they are just switching two of his classes. He will have the same teachers and the same subjects. I also was able to contact their librarian and will be coming in to do some volunteer work in the library.

Well I don’t feel right ending a post without at least one picture so here it is. Rudy was cooking out on the grill and had a bug zapper light on. He saw this little guy sitting on the light eating the bugs.

What a week

The kids had Monday off; I took them to blizzard beach, Tuesday back at school, Wednesday off because of Ernesto then back to school on Thursday and Friday. They have tomorrow off to because of Labor Day. I told one of the teacher’s at school that maybe they should reconsider the start date of the school year. Maybe they should start school, oh after Labor Day. Actually I don’t mind them starting school earlier because they get out earlier.

Tyde had his bike stolen from school so now he is with out transportation. My idea was to fix up the other bike we have to let him use. Rudy told me it needs a new derailleur along with some other stuff. Trying to get to the store that sells that kind of stuff hasn’t really worked out yet, they seem to be closed when I have time to go. It might be awhile before he gets his transportation going again.

I stayed up yesterday to watch the Alabama vs Hawaii game. It was an exciting game that kept me up till the end. I hope they are able to improve as the year goes on though. While watching the game I worked on the sleeves for my peace fleece sweater. Here is a progress picture. I'm not sure if I'm going to have enough yarn to finish.

I’ve also started on a pair of socks. I can’t remember what the yarn is called I’ll look that up. It seems like it was peacock or something like that. I got it from a knitting store in Huntsville called Yarn Expressions. She has beautiful stuff but it is kind of pricey.

I'm using one of the patterns from Vogue Knitting Magazine. I'm not sure if this yarn will work well with this pattern. I might should have tried to use a yarn that is a solid color so the pattern will show up better. Right now I'll just keep working at it to see how it looks and then decide from there.
This is a picture of the socks from the magazine.

Dax has no game this weekend because of the holiday. We haven't heard from the kitchen cabinet guy yet (sigh). In the meantime Rudy has been finishing up on the painting, trim and caulking. We also picked up a light for the dinning room so that will probably be up soon.

Update

There was the book fair at the school this week. I spent more then what I should but it does go back into the school so I’m trying not to feel bad about that. There was also an open house at Dax’s school. I think it went well. I really like the teacher Dax has this year. Tyde’s open house is Tuesday and I’m really looking forward to that. I’ve only met one of his teachers so far. He also has a Dr’s appointment that day.

Rudy has finished the soffit on the house and is almost done putting all the lights up outside. All gazillion of them, actually I think there are about 13 or 14 of them. I haven’t went around and counted them yet. We definitely will not have a problem seeing at night and neither will our neighbors.

Dax’s soccer team, the lightning, struck again. They played a Cocoa Beach team and the game should have been called when the score was 7-0 but the coaches wanted to let the girls keep playing. I think the end score was 15-1. Dax’s team is on a roll now. They play Rockledge next week. We’ll see if their winning streak holds up for them. Dax is number 12.

I finished the mermaid socks and Dax whisked them off as fast as she could.

I found this in my closet. It’s a sweater I started about a year ago and didn’t finish. It’s made from Peace Fleece yarn and pattern that I picked up over a year ago at the Maryland sheep and wool festival. I thought I would pick it back up and try and finish it.

I’m seriously eyeing this sweater from Knit picks for Dax. The colors would look great on her.

I’ve also heard that one of my favorite books might become a movie. I heard about it here. Wee Free Men has been acquired by one of the motion picture makers. I couldn’t find any information on when the release date will be though.

Mail

Look what I got in the mail, pottery by us :). This is the pottery we painted while in Alabama at a store called Pottery by you. It takes them a week to fire it and we were only there a few days. My sister picked it up for us and mailed it. It looks great and I can easily see myself getting more into this pottery stuff.

Dax’s pottery did get broke but I think we can easily fix it with some glue.

Soccer season has started again. Their first game was Saturday and it was very exciting. I thought it ended in a tie but was told we were one score up, something like 6-7. Maybe I should pay more attention when they are playing.

This and that

Well it’s been a while so here’s a quick recap of what’s been going on.

I celebrated my 41st birthday. It hasn’t sunk in yet that I’m that old. What ever happened to the thirty something years, hmm. Rudy and the kids took me out to see Pirates of the Caribbean. I’ve heard mixed reviews on this movie so didn’t have high expectations. Turns out I really enjoyed the show and so did the kids.

Tyde and Dax started school. I really feel that summer was to short this year. Tyde started 7th grade and he now goes to a school that goes from 7th -12th and Dax is in 6th. They are at different schools and it is taking me a little while to get in to a new routine. I’ve decided that I will not be as involved in the PTO and let them know that I will not be the President this year. At our last meeting we found a new President and it felt a bit awkward for me. I really am glad to no longer have the job though.

I’ve managed to finish a top I was working on. I think the pattern was called pretty in pink. Maybe that makes the one I made called pretty in blue. It doesn’t fit as nicely as I was hoping. I like the bottom part of it but the top isn’t shaped the way I was picturing it to. Dax likes it though. She wants to make her one. I got the pattern for it off the internet from a blog called Delicious Stitches The yarn I used is from Hancock Fabrics

Rudy has been working on the soffit (not sure how you spell that).

We should be hearing about the kitchen cabinets soon. We are (what feels like) oh so slowly approaching the 12 week mark. The guy who is making the cabinets said it would take 8-12 weeks. It will be 12 weeks on Aug. 24.

Back from Bama

Our trip to Alabama was a great get away. We were able to keep our selves busy while at the same time keep it relaxing. We went on country walks, visited fruit and vegetable stands, the creek, swimming, bowling, pottery painting and shopping. Here are some pictures from the trip.

The drive down went very good. However the drive back was a bit wet. It rained alot.
Stopping at a rest stop for lunch. I really liked the rest stops, very nice.

Meet Captain Carrots! An angora bunny.

Tyde makes a friend. This is Rocky.

Dax's friend Pepper.

Sam helps the kids make candles.

A day at the bowling alley. I have a better picture of the group at the bowling alley but this one Tyde almost has a smile so I used it instead.

Some time at the creek.

The paint your own pottery place. I really liked this place. I had a good time and even got an early birthday cake while there.

I wish I had taken more pictures but I guess at least I took some :). I have to try and catch up more tomorrow.

This n that

I can’t get over how fast the kids summer break is flying by. I haven’t gotten nearly as much things done as I was hoping. We did walk down to the beach yesterday. Dax found this on the beach, hmmm, interesting.

When we got home I noticed we are getting close to having some eatable fruits soon.

I also managed to finish up a top that Dax asked me to make for her. It was pretty easy to throw together using the serger.

Here’s what’s on the wheel for now. I got this roving while at the Maryland sheep and wool festival. As time goes by you will notice that most my wool I got from the Maryland sheep and wool festival. We don't have a huge selection of places to buy rovings from down here in Florida. This green stuff is really nice to spin.

This week is going to be busy. I decided to try and get the kids to Alabama for a week before they have to go back to school. So I’m going to spend the next five days to get ready for a road trip. I don’t even have an atlas so that will be on the list of things to get.

Boo

Last Halloween Dax wanted to be Violet from the Unfortunate Events. I managed to get some pictures from the internet and worked feverishly to make this costume on time for Halloween. On Halloween I took a bunch of pictures of her to only find out the next day that I didn’t have a memory card in the camera. She has been asking me to take some pictures of her in the costume. Sooooo, today we did. Here is a picture of the original.

And here is what we managed to come up with.

While we are in the Halloween, “boo” mood, I finished the booga bag. I went ahead and re-felted it and Dax helped me needle felt some flowers on it.
